Di-Di, thank you very much for the advise to use 3-4 different brands of potting soils and mix them. My compost heap is not ready yet for use but
I could still go on with the beds.

  2. jeanette viljoen says:

    Hi there

I am going to be using plastic crates for all my veggie garden. Firstly will they still be organic vegetables if I do this?
What is the best kind of potting soil to use, is there organic potting soil available? I am already on my second Bokashi bucket but it will still be a long time before I have enough of my own good quality soil.

    • Hi Jeanette. As long as you don’t eat the crates I’m sure the veggies will still be organic – just joking. The poor quality of the potting soils available in South Africa is one of my pet peeves. So I’d rather not recommend a specific brand. I’ll often buy 3-4 different brands and mix them – that way I end up with a usable product.
