Hmm, “In conventional medicine, illness is viewed as the result of external agents that can only be removed with the help of the doctor and his or her highly specialized tools.” I hadn’t really thought about it in quite these terms before, but would agree, at least to a certain extent. I have, though, been blessed to know doctors that do see the relationship of lifestyle choices on health. I love the idea of herbalists being “allies” in the healing process rather than trying to control it.

    1. Western doctors treats the problem, not the cause. They isolate a certain area of interest and tries to correct it with unnatural chemicals. Holistic healers looks at the body as a whole and uses herbs to restore balance to the body so that the body can heal itself.
    2. Yes, I agree with the statement. (Basically what I said above): Western doctors only wants to fix one part (or remove it), while holistic healers aim to maintain balance and the best conditions in the body for the body to thrive.
    3. Natural healers uses nature in its purest form possible to bring about support, healing and balance to the human body.
    4. When it comes to healing with plants, I kinda have an “aha moment” almost every day! (hehehe!)

    1. Summary on the approach to holistic healers and Western doctors.
In conventional medicine, illness is viewed as the result of external agents that can only be removed with the help of the doctor and his or her highly specialized tools.

    2. The gardener is not a “fixer” of things so much as an ally: he or she nurtures, promotes, enhances, and works with the garden, but does not try to control it.
In the East, healers seek to make the body well. In the West, we seek to keep it alive, running; and the body is viewed as a system of energy, not as a machine, and the contents of their medicine chests reflect that. Gardeners and mechanics, after all, use different tools.
    3. It is about creating health, and knowing how to help the body heal itself better – not just manage or treat disease.
    4. “AHA” (Eureka) moments: The tools most valued in holistic medicine are those that can promote the “good”, assist the body in maintaining balance and enhance its own healing mechanisms. Hence, I have a very vital role to play in ensuring that i keep this temple Healthy at all costs.

Focus on the source of dis-“ease” rather than the symptoms. The root cause requires “root” treatment not consequence or disease management

    1. Holistic Healers aims to identify and cure the root cause of an ailment and solve the underlying problem, while Western doctors mostly just treat the symptoms.

    2. Yes. As a mechanic the western doctors just want to fix that part that is malfunctioning, as in a engine. They do not see at the body as a whole integrated interdependent system like an organic gardener treats a garden.

    3. Natural healers sees the body as a whole and stimulate the body with plants to heal itself.

    4. O yes, one of my eureka moments was when I realized that the food that I eat has a direct effect (good or bad – depending if it is real food or not) on my health.

The primary difference between holistic and Western medicine is this: Western medicine focuses on making you FEEL better by medicating your symptoms into submission, but not necessarily addressing underlying issues. Holistic medicine focuses on IMPROVING the underlying issues, thereby improving overall health which ultimately results in actually BEING better.

I fully agree with the statement that Western doctors are mechanics and holistic healers are gardeners. One cannot force the human body to improve. One can only give the body what it needs to heal itself and then watch the healing happen. Holistic healers understand this. Western doctors use medications and surgery prolifically to hide or “control” the human body, but this does not solve the issue, it is only meant to provide the patient with immediate relief of the symptoms.

The main doctrine or philosophy of natural healers is to work with the body to improve overall health and the body’s ability to heal itself by providing the body with the things it needs to heal.

I am very familiar with my right to health and nothing in this unit came as a surprise to me. I am looking forward to learning and progressing as a healer for my family.

    1. The West is about patching and pushing the machine replacing parts where possible. The East nurtures and prepares the body from start to finish to maintain and prevent wear and tear.
    2. Yes I do. My explanation is the same as no. 1.
    3. Create and maintain healthy energy by prevention; using the Earth and YAH’S power.
    4. When I heard the gardener and mechanic comparison. Because you hit the nail on the head.

    1. Holistic healers use natural plants to prevent and heal ailments, treating the cause of the problem, whilst western doctors use chemical products to treat symptoms, many times without guarantee for success and sometimes with the side effects of worsening the illness. Pharmaceutical companies will never acknowledge the success of holistic healing as the monetary value is higher for them than human health.

    2. Western doctors are mechanics as they must obey whatever medical law prescribes, together with pharmaceutical pressure. Holistic healers treat people with the plants of the earth, following a natural and basic caring regime.

    3. Natural healers use plants and natural means to heal and prevent illnesses.

4.No. I’ve been on this natural path for a while now, believing and using more natural, basic means.

Summarize the approaches of holistic healers and Western doctors.
Do you agree with the statement that Western doctors are mechanics and holistic healers are gardeners? Briefly explain your point of view.

Holistic healers use natural plants and food to heal and “nurture” the body, addressing the root causes to stop and prevent illness or disharmony in the body while western doctors toxify the body with chemicals, treating symptoms and not the root, in turn ensuring that you keep coming back. Western practises and chemicals have so many side effects it is impossible for one to not go back, hence they even have prescriptions. Holistic medicine has helped me to cure chronic fatigue, sinuses and hormonal imbalances. My mother suffered from heart problems and was assisted by aloe vera while doctors wanted to cut her open, she was given a certain time to lie and on the 27th Oct she is turning 59!!! that is 10 years later.

If someone asked you what the main doctrine or philosophy of natural healers is, what would you say to them? Whittle your explanation down to one short sentence that a 12-year old can understand.

That healing is a natural process that needs use of natural plants.

Did you have any “AHA” (Eureka) moments? What were they? Share in a Reply below.
No, I am already leading a natural and holistic lifestyle and this is just confirming my journey facts.

    1) Summarize the approaches of holistic healers and Western doctors.

Holistic healers and Western doctors are in the opposite of each other in the same path. One concentrating on the fixing the problem, other want to heal the source of the problem.
Holistic healers focus on healing the body before it has disease, using the natural ways to reach the problem in the body and fixing the problem before there is the problem.
Western doctors trying to heal the symptoms without exploring the problem that cause it.
It the perfect world doctor and healer should be the same person. Modern medicine should go side by side with a holistic healing.

    2) Do you agree with the statement that Western doctors are mechanics and holistic healers are gardeners? Briefly explain your point of view.

    I agree.
Western doctors fixing the problem does not care about the course and healing it because it’s not going to feed the pharmaceutical machine.
Holistic healers cares about the body and nurture it. Healers sees it as a plant that needs to grow and live not a machine to run and pay more money for medicine that going to fix one problem but open up another.

    3) If someone asked you what the main doctrine or philosophy of natural healers is, what would you say to them? Whittle your explanation down to one short sentence that a 12-year old can understand.

Natural healers are like gardner. He nurtures body and helps him grow and live healthy.

Holistically prevention is better than cure and the root cause needs to be dealt with. Western Drs look at fixing the problem ASAP – “what’s the problem” and “here is a pharmaceutical drug”.
Herbalistically we look at nurture the body, promote holistic wellness – mind, body, soul, physically, connection to our surroundings.

Food is our medicine, use it wisely.

My Grandmother and Mother believed in healing herbs and it was a way of life. Along came the 80s and 90s, life got busy, chilsren to raise and going to the Dr was the quuckest and easiest method.
Here i am backtracking at a furious rate learning and remembering and qualified as a Wellness Counsellor herbs are part of the process.
