Herbal and Botanical Formulae

I’ve divided the formuale into three sections: Herbal Cold Formulae, Aromatherapy Oils and Flower Remedies. Plus, I’ve included a section with nutritional supplements. Enjoy!

1. Herbal Cold Formulae

Unless otherwise stated, the formulas refer to dried herbs and the doses are for adults. If you are one of the lucky ones who have access to fresh herbs, rather make a fresh batch each morning.

Use a teaspoon as your measure (part) and substitute one part dried herb with three parts fresh herb if you have those available.

Cold Prevention Formula

This formula consists of a couple of carefully selected tonic and detoxifying herbs. It helps clears toxins from your body, strengthens your body and supplies valuable vitamins and minerals.

Take this mixture as a preventative before you get a cold. Do not take it if you have a cold. All the herbs are available from health shops.

2 parts burdock root
2 parts dandelion root
1/2 part liquorice root
1 part rose hips
2 parts red clover blossoms
1 part chamomile flowers
1 part alfalfa leaf

All the root ingredients and the rose hips must be more or less the same particle size. Grind those that are not, before you mix them with the remaining three ingredients.

Infuse 1 level tablespoon of the formula in a cup of boiling water for twenty minutes. Drink 3 cups a day.

Sorry, but only logged-in students can see the remaining cold and flu formulae and preparations. Please login or enrol HERE!

Take Action

  1. Make a shortlist of three formulae that you’d like to add to your apothecary. Don’t overthink this. Just go with with the three that resonates the most with you.
  2. Do the same for the nutritional supplements focusing on food sources, not pills.

Ah I absolutely loved this section! There are so many remedies I want to try as I get colds so often and my immune system definitely needs a boost! I am going to start with the steam inhalations and the garlic and ginger Infusion.

It would be amazing to have this section in a downloadable ebook, I’d love to have it readily to hand!

I would add the cayenne and peppermint infusion and the ginger and garlic decoction.
I also enjoy the use of steam inhalations using eucalyptus oil. In terms of nutrition ,I would rather go for tomatoes ,broccoli ,sweet potatoes for Vitamin C. For Zinc would add legumes ,nuts and dairy products .

I have found steam inhalations to be a power antidote for flu and colds. Vitaforce has a product called Olbas that is EXECELLENT for steam inhalation. It has the following oils in their formula: Eucalyptus, Peppermint, Cajuput, Turpentine, Wintergreen, Mythol and Clove. It is expensive though so I am going to try to make my OWN mixture after completing this course.

Ginger and Garlic Decotion, Hyssop cough mixture and steam inhalations. In addition to the Vitamin A, C and Zinc mentioned Vitamin D is also a great immune booster. This is not strictly a Vitamin though as it is synthesized by the body from sunlight.
