From-the-trenches advice for being a better person and health coach from Karo Paszkowska – Founder, Director & Master Coach at The K Method
They say success leaves clues. I say your attitude leaves clues. When you assume responsibility for everything you do and for everything you say you will do, people will feel reassured, safe and trusting. There is genuine power in trust. The more safe one feels when they are around you, the more they trust in your processes.
It all starts with you.
Understanding your identity is the first step to success.
Carved into a stone at the entrance to Apollo’s temple at Delphi in Greece are the words ‘Know Thyself’. Dating back to an ancient Greek inscription, the injunction to ‘know thyself’ has, for many years, inspired people to engage in a search for self-understanding.
In order to understand one another, you must first put emphasis on who you are, what motivates you, what your core values are, and what you stand for in life and in business. You must own your entire inner space and focus less on the outside universe. This level of self-awareness is crucial before you go out into the world wanting to help others with your gifts and with your why.
There are many internal and external factors that define your identity. I like to call them the building blocks of who you are. Here, I am not talking about your ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, your physical ability, your level of scholarly education, or any other intersectional characteristics that you carry as an individual.
My observations (on a personal and professional level) in the personal and business development world have shown that, without a doubt, the deciding factor of success, the stepping stone, the missing piece of the puzzle: has always been your mindset. Believing that intelligence and talent can be developed is the key. If you believe you can learn anything to the highest level and hone your talents, you will be successful. The sky is not the limit. Your mind can serve you endless possibilities. However, you must learn to take notice and assume a position of growth; what you focus on, expands.
Other crucial elements defining your identity are:
- The sets of beliefs you hold in your unconscious
- Past choices, whether made consciously or unconsciously and present choices
- Your peer group and your environment
Regarding your identity in business, ask yourself the question: who do I need to become? What kind of person do you need to be in order to achieve success and to maintain it? Are you ready to assume the responsibility that comes with success?
The responsibility you assume will drive things forward for you and your customers. Responsibility is that millimetre of difference between success and failure. This is great because the more responsible you are, the more help you will receive from your surroundings. It is give and take. When you create a win-win situation for your internal world, you will create the same in the external world for those in business with you. Own it!
They say success leaves clues. I say your attitude leaves clues. When you assume responsibility for everything you do and for everything you say you will do, people will feel reassured, safe and trusting. There is genuine power in trust. The more safe one feels when they are around you, the more they trust in your processes.
Your only goal is to make them feel good. Client satisfaction isn’t enough nowadays, the real make it or break it moment happens when your customers feel good after speaking and working with you. If you understand that, your business will skyrocket.
To sum up: in order to be successful, first, know and solidify your identity; determine who you are and what you stand for. Second, define who you must become in order to welcome success into your life and really hone those God-given talents of yours. And third, be compelled to make other people feel good because of working with you and being around you.
